A bruised bride walks down the aisle with a torn dress and a black eye and the room goes quiet. That opening image hits hard because it raises a question we usually avoid: as the bride of Christ, do we look ready, or do we look like we have been fighting all week and losing? From Valley Gospel Church in Springdale, PA, we turn to Judges 1:1–3 and build everything around Judah’s invitation to Simeon: “Come up with me.”
We connect that moment to the bigger story of spiritual inheritance, spiritual warfare, and the Holy Spirit. Simeon has no land, no portion, no future on paper and Judah has more than enough. That becomes a clear gospel picture of how sin disinherits, how unbelief rejects light, and how Jesus Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, shares what is His with people who cannot earn it. We also talk about God’s desire for an abundant life and why Psalm 23 belongs in the real world: God prepares a table in the presence of your enemies, which means praise is not reserved for easy days.
We challenge the constant pressure to strive for victory and replace it with grace through faith, peace as a gift, and identity as God’s workmanship. We end by calling for renewed fire in the church, the kind of presence that brings deliverance and sends darkness running. SPEAKER_01Hello, welcome to Valley Gospel Church. We are a non-denominational Pentecostal church located in Springdale, Pennsylvania. Our sole mission is to present the living truth of a risen Lord, Jesus Christ, to a remnant church and a lost world. So let's go into the service recorded live at Valley Gospel Church.
The Bruised Bride Illustration
SPEAKER_03How many of you have been to a big formal wedding? I know we don't do that anymore. We go out by the lake or that's fine. But if you've ever been at a big formal wedding and the groom and the groomsman stand on the platform on the left, the bridesmaids on the right, all dressed in their finest, uh, all looking sharp. No expenses have been spared in decoration and flowers. Uh the best man, the maid of honor, nervously await the entrance of the bride. The crash is rolled out the length of the building. Uh the organist begins to play the bridal song. The congregation all stands in anticipation of the entrance of the bride. And she enters the sanctuary, her dress is torn, there's mud all over her dress. She has a split lip, a black eye, and a bloody nose, and someone comments, uh, the bride's been fighting again. Christy, let's go to work. As the true church of the bride of Christ, I wonder if that isn't how we sometimes look to the Lord. Not quite ready for the marriage supper. Not quite ready for prime time. So if you have your Bibles, would you turn with Chrissy, please, to the book of Judges.
Judges 1 And A Simple Call
SPEAKER_03The Old Testament Book of Judges. If you get to Samuel on your right, or uh Joshua on your left, it's right in the middle. We haven't been here in a while. Judges one, I'll ask you when you ever whenever you get there, would you please stand in reverence to God's word? Judges 1, 1 through 3.
SPEAKER_02Now after the death of Joshua, it came to pass that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up. Indeed, I have delivered the land into his hand. So Judah said to Simeon, his brother, Come up with me to my allotted territory, that we may fight against the Canaanites, and I will likewise go with you to your allotted territory. And Simeon went with him.
SPEAKER_03It means place or portion or destiny. And this may seem like a very inconsequential uh bit of history, but there's wealth and there's power in that little reading this morning. Uh of course, we all know that all scripture is given for instruction, for reproof, for rebuke, to enlighten, to prepare for service to our God. This call in the book of Judges has been given by the Holy Spirit to every believer, to every Christian from the time of Christ until today. Amen. And I'll use for the for a subject this morning the words that Judah spoke to Simeon. Come up with me.

SPEAKER_03Come up with me. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you, Lord. Thank you for this. Whoa. Thank you for this revelation of Old Testament truth, Lord, and helping and showing me how to bring it to this current day, to New Testament Christians. Lord, let this word this morning be a lamp unto our feet, a light to our path. It is in the name of your precious, beloved, August, all-powerful, soon coming Son we pray. Amen and amen. Please be seated.
Satan’s Strategy To Separate You
SPEAKER_03As we study God's word this morning, I'll ask you to keep in mind that the enemy, Satan, Lucifer, the devil, is at every opportunity trying to hinder and to destroy your relationship with God. Continually trying to place, trying to place, maybe more accurately, a separation between you and the Holy Ghost. That's his goal. And if if you were at Wednesday's Bible study, but we learned that that was the exact strategy that Satan used with Adam and Eve in the garden. That separation strategy, separating them with cunning and with deceit and with lies, and trying to separate them from communication with their Father, which was in essence the Holy Spirit. God walked with them in the garden by the Holy Spirit. And it ultimately caused the Holy Spirit to be withdrawn from this earth, amen, and removed from all of humanity for nearly twelve hundred years. No Holy Spirit for twelve hundred years. But as Malachi said in the last book of the Old Testament, an offspring is coming. An offspring. The Holy Spirit would be restored. And that serpent literally has not a leg to stand on. That's the message I was sent to deliver today. Literally, not a leg to stand on. Serpent, right? Exodus. I know you'll find that one quick. Exodus three.
The Promised Land And Abundant Life
SPEAKER_03One verse, three and seventeen. And God said unto Moses, I am that I am. And he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I am hath sent me unto you. All right. When the Israelites walked into the land of milk and honey, it was a promise to Joshua. It was a it was a promise. Hold on, I read the wrong verse. 17, I want. And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizites and the Hivites and the Jebusites unto a land flowing with milk and honey. When the Israelites walked into that land that God had prepared, milk and honey, it was a promise to Joshua, to Moses, that this land would be the garden spot. It would be beyond comprehension. It would be fertile, it would be lush, it would be filled with bounty and beauty. Everything they would ever need, everything they could ever want would be there. And let me make this point. God wants his children, everyone gathered here this morning, he wants us to live abundant lives. In fact, that's his will. No, he doesn't. No, he doesn't. You made that up. Hallelujah. It's his will that we live an abundant life. You know, I shared a revelation of the 23rd Psalm with a brother this week in an email and to encourage him. And God prepares for us a table in the presence of our enemies. And I remember in Bible school, I was told that while that table is in heaven. There's no enemies in heaven. How can the table be there? No enemies in heaven. That table is here and now. Here and now. God wants us to live in the land of milk and honey. I'm not saying it's all zippity-doo-da-da-heaven. Don't misunderstand. When Satan is messing with you, it seems that maybe destruction is at your doorstep or morality is failing all around us. Family seems to be falling away. But with demons all around, with devils all around, with stumbling blocks everywhere, the Holy Spirit prepares you a table. Glory. In the presence of your enemy. In fact, you understand what that means? He makes the devil watch you eat. Glory. And looking back and then trying to look forward, a full gospel church on the hilltop in Springdale. Are you crazy? Are you crazy with totally surrounded by oppression and false doctrine and other gospels? He prepares a table in the presence of our enemy. Glory. When it looks bad, and we talked about this last week, that's the time to praise the Lord. That's the time to shout. That's the time to praise him. Amen. When Satan smacks you and sends you into his tailspin, whether it for whatever reason, that's when we have to tell him, I serve the king. I serve the king. Praise God. You know, we see we sometimes get it backwards, Barbie. We sometimes get it completely backwards. That our time is to sing in church and praise in church. And that's true. But how about when we lose our job? How about when we get a bad report from the doctor? How about when the car breaks down? How about when there's not enough money or trouble in your family or too much weak at the end of your money? That's the time to praise God. That's when we shout. Hallelujah. When there's too many people heading to hospice, that's the time to shout. Glory. Satan will steal the very smile from your face if we let him. Let me tell you, he is a liar, he is a thief, and we need to get him out of our classrooms, we need to get him out of our living rooms, out of our workplace, and most importantly, get him out of our churches. Glory.
Judah Shares The Lot With Simeon
SPEAKER_03Children of Israel, they're in Canaan land. The way was hard, it was difficult. They were parceling out land to the tribes. We know from the book of Genesis that the twelve tribes of Israel were named after Jacob's sons, right? And I did, I'm I cheated here a little bit. I wrote him down because the last time we tried to mention all twelve tribes, I got to about six. Judah, Reuben, Gad. Who would name their child Gad? I don't know. Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Ishekar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin. Twelve tribes of Israel. Now when they got to Simeon, parceling out the land, there was no parcel of land for Simeon. There was nothing. No inheritance. Why not? Well, we won't go completely in depth because that's a whole other message. But he was cursed. Simeon was cursed because of the slaughter on the Shechemites many years prior. But the curse provided that Simeon would receive no inheritance when Israel possessed the promised land. Now the tribe of Judah, Judah, had received a larger inheritance than any other tribe. Judah. Judah. Store that. Put that. It was the lower west corner of the land of milk and honey. It was the largest parcel of land. It was near Jerusalem. Now what do we know about Judah? Judah. It's the tribe of praise. Judah. The tribe of praise. Through the tribe of Judah, Jesus the Messiah would come. Glory. The banner of Judah is a lion. I know to Scott it looks like he has a symbol in his mouth. Amen. The banner of not an old, worn-out, snaggle-toothed lion, but a young, powerful lion. Jesus is that lion. Hallelujah. That's why we have a, that's why there's a lion up here. Jesus is that lion. Simeon received nothing, no inheritance. Thousands of people were disinherited, having no part in this beautiful land because of the sin that was committed hundreds of years prior. Just as millions of us were disinherited because of Adam and Eve's sin. Tie this together. Thousands of years ago made it impossible. No heaven, no Holy Spirit, no access to our to our God without Jesus. None of that could happen. Amen. All the Old Testament saints, you all know this, but all the Old Testament saints, when they died, I don't care how good you were or how hard you worked for God or how many sermons you preach couldn't go to heaven. There was no way. The way wasn't open. But the lion of the tribe of Judah, no provision for Simeon. So Judah steps up and said, Hey, you know what? I've got more than I need. I've got it all. Our lot is way bigger than everybody else's. I've got the best land, I've got the most abundant, the most fertile, the best of the best, the best portion of the land that flows with all the land flows with milk and honey, but I have the best of the best. You come up with me. Simeon, come up with me. Brothers and sisters, you and I were disinherited by Adam's sin. We were left out, we were cursed. But our heavenly Judah said, Come up with me. Come up with me. You see, sin separates.
Sin As Rejection Of Light
SPEAKER_03Sin separates, separates us from God, from our relationship with Him and what He intended for us to have. Regardless of the sin. You know, we sometimes view sin as something we do, oh, that's a sin. That's a sin. Or something that we commit and we want to label them. We used to have a brother at the first Pentecostal church who would stand up. His name was George Montoy, and he would stand up every service and said, and to call attention to himself, he would say, I don't I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't chase women, like my brother Leroy does. That was every Sunday. Sin is much broader than that. It's much bigger. It's a willful willful rejection of light. A willful rejection of light. Rejection of God's will or his desire in our lives. You know, so many are striving for religion, but reject the Holy Spirit and what he's trying to do in our lives. Reject his movement, reject his leading, reject his guidance in our walk and in our lives. And it all comes down to unbelief. Every bit of it comes down to unbelief. Rejection of the cross, much to your prophetic word, my brother. Rejection of the cross always leads to failure. Always leads to failure. Like Simeon, we come to our place bent and broken, unable to continue, and our heavenly Judah is waiting for us and says, Come up with me. Come into my lot. I've got it all. I've got everything. God the Father has given the kingdom, the place, the portion, to Judah, to Jesus, to the lion. That's been done. That's already given. Amen. He holds the deed to the spiritual land. The title deed. We're going to go up and take the country and possess the land from Jordan to the sea. Though the giants may be there a way to hinder. Our God has already given us victory. Glory, glory, glory. Jesus has given us the land. Jesus has given us the victory. Look, we can't struggle for that inheritance. We can't fight for it. We can't try to get it. We can't try to be good. And you hear all the time, I'm trying to live holy, I'm struggling for victory in my life. We're resting in Jesus' holiness. He is holy. Therefore, we are holy. Glory. Jesus gave us the victory. You hear someone, oh, I just, if I could have a little peace in my life, Jesus said, My peace I give unto you. Glory.
Grace Not Works For Victory
SPEAKER_03Not something we can work for or struggle for. We can't do it. Jesus did it. And he gave it to us. Handed it over. No question. Here you go. Here you go. Did you ever hear someone say? When you just jump into someone, just an acquaintance. You say how you doing? I'm still hanging in there. Oh, I'm still breathing. I'm still kicking. That's the one my mother used to say. I'm still sucking wind. I don't even know what I don't know why. I don't know why some Christians just aren't happy unless they're knee-deep in mug mud and mire, slugging through some sp some spiritual turmoil in their lives. Something climbing, climbing to get on that mountain. Church, you're not struggling to climb that mountain. It's not an uphill climb. Jesus picked you up and took you to the top. Glory, glory, glory. Yeah, there are Jebusites and high tites and Gergesites, but Jesus lifted you up to the very top of that mountain. Glory, glory, glory. Steph used to sing a song. I'm living up on the mountain and I'm alright. I'm living on uh drinking from the well that won't run dry. Living up on the mountain and I'm alright. I'm alright. Our heavenly Judah has given us the way, the means, and the power. You are connected to the throne by the Holy Ghost. And your God this morning, yesterday, tomorrow loves you. You're connected to the throne and God loves you. Nothing can separate you from that love. Not power, not principality, nothing present or things to come can separate you from the love of God. Nothing. How many of you know that God doesn't love you anymore as a born-again child of God than when you were lost and on the street or struggling up and down? He doesn't love you anymore now because you came to him. He can't. He gave all his love. He gave it all. Come up with me into my luck. Jesus always lifts us up. He always lifts us up. The Holy Spirit wants to lift you up. Amen. He wants to lift you up and set you free. Religion can't do it. Religion can't do it. Church won't do it. Works won't set you free because only Jesus breaks every fetter. Only Jesus bled the blood. Only Jesus saves, only He heals, only and He loves you. And He loves you. My He said, Come up with me. Come up with me. What are you waiting for? Why are you trying to carve out some? And He said, if you do come up with me by my spirit, I'll come down with you and help you. I'll help you with your problems of the flesh. I'll help you with humanity. I'll help you with your depression. I'll help you with your temper. I know none of you have that, right? Even when we were dead in sin, hath quickened us together with Christ, by grace we are saved, and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace and his kindness toward us through Jesus Christ. For by grace are you saved through faith, in that not of yourselves it is a gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast, for we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus, unto good works which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Even when we were dead in sin, even when we were lost in sin and couldn't help ourselves, he gave us a new light. He gave
Lifted Up And Loved By God
SPEAKER_03us a new idea, a new identification, a new mind, a new thought process, a new way of living. We are his workmanship. And being his workmanship, and called into his lot, it has its responsibility. Part of that responsibility is sharing what God has given us with others, even when we don't feel like it, even when we're a little down and dealing with our own stuff, or when we feel that everything's going wrong, we've been called by the God of the ages. We've been called by the great I Am. You have been called by the altogether lovely one, the ancient of days, the lily of the valley, the rose of Sharon, the bright in the morning star, the one that shut the lion's mouth in the lion's den. One that parted the Red Sea, one who walked with the three Hebrew children in the midst of the fire. He lifts you up. Always up. I hate to be I hate to even say it, but it's in my head. I'll say it. An old seals and crops song. And we go up always up. Only two of you remember that song. Come up with me into my lot for you to say. And I'll leave you with some thoughts. God is visiting his churches in 2026. He's visiting not just to hang out, he's visiting us with power. Power from heaven. To show the world that we're not serving one of many gods. Amen. Jesus is King of Kings. Jesus is Lord of Lords. He is Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end. He's not dead. He's alive. Not some icon in a dusty monastery on an altar in a Orthodoxy church. Amen. That's not where he's at. That's not where he's stuck. I do remember asking the priest back when I was an altar boy and asking, what's in that golden box? Well, the Lord is. Really? You put your God in a little box. Have mercy. He's alive. He's alive. He's alive and well. If you know it, clap your hands. Hallelujah, hallelujah. Jesus is alive. And if you don't know it, allow me the privilege of introducing you to him. His name is Jesus. He's alive. He's seated at the right hand of the Father. Our heavenly Judah. Judah. He sent his Holy Spirit to live in us and enliven us so that we could let the fire of God loose. He's called just like just like when Lazarus was in the tomb, amen. Jesus raised him. He put him out there. But he told these people loose him and let him go. We're called to loose the fire. Loose the fire of God. Glory. And you know what? When we loose the fire of God, when the lights come on, roaches scatter. Glory. When the fire of God is lit in the church, you know what happens? One of two things. Either we run out the door or we get delivered. One of those two things happen. It's time for the fire of God to come back into the assembly. Time to come back. Hunger's growing in the church. Powers manifesting in the church. The church that Jesus established, built, and watches over and heads should be the brightest and the baddest thing on the planet. Glory. Come up with me into my house. Into my lot, and I'll come down to yours. Glory.
Our Responsibility To Share
SPEAKER_03Would you stand, please? We'll close. Thank you, Lord. Lord, thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for your mercy. When we fall, when we stray, when we doubt, when we just don't understand, Lord, give us strength, give us your wisdom, your protection in the midst of this battle. Lord, we don't need to fear. Even when the enemy tries to take us captive or land that death blow and tries to finish us or seduce us to do his will, by your spirit, you give us power. Glory, glory, glory. By your spirit, you have given us authority to defeat him at every turn with every onslaught. By the power of your Holy Ghost, when we resist the devil, Lord, you told us he must flee. We look to you for everything. Our deliverance comes from you, our strength comes from you, our sustenance comes from you. Lord, you are holy and righteous. And there's no greater joy than to enter your presence with praise and thanksgiving. Lord, we bless you at all times. Your praise is continually in our mouths. We will sing, we will testify, we will teach, we will preach, we will tell of your greatness because you have made us glad. You're in control, Lord. You hold the outcome to everything. We seek you today, Lord. Every problem, you are the solution to every puzzle. Your word says you're willing to open your hand and lose those gifts, lose those fire. Lord, more than willing. And it gives you great pleasure to do that. Lord, we know that a puzzle is still a puzzle until the last piece is in place. Lord, send us that divinal peace. That divinal peace. Give us the full head. Reveal, reveal the peace that we need, Lord. That we need to put in place to complete this. Give us the word, the revelation, the anointing to take us to the next level. It is in your name we pray. Amen.
