Healing rarely feels calm. Sometimes it itches, pinches, and irritates you and that’s not always a setback. We start with that everyday picture and move straight into the deeper question: what happens when life wounds you, church wounds you, or sin tangles you up, and you’re trying to follow Jesus but you still feel bound?
We lean on two powerful scriptures to bring clarity and hope. First, Lazarus walks out of the tomb alive yet still wrapped up, and Jesus tells the disciples to “loose him and let him go.” That moment names what so many believers live with: salvation is real, but habits, shame, fear, and old patterns can still cling. Then we open Jeremiah 18 and the potter’s house, where a marred vessel is not discarded. God remakes it. Not a quick patch job, not tape over cracks, but a full reworking that can include heat, pressure, and patience as we learn to yield to the Holy Spirit.
After the message, the service shifts into a practical teaching on worship. We talk honestly about why people stay restrained, then walk through several biblical expressions of praise and demonstrate them before moving into a worship set filled with scripture, joy, peace, provision, and the steady assurance that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

When Healing Feels Like Irritation
SPEAKER_00How many of you have ever had a cut, a puncture, an abrasion? I know my brother Terry and I, we're always, we always got something bleeding. Teddy too. Teddy has more DNA in my shop. He's a bleeder. But you dress it, and my my introduction today came from that. But you dress it, you put that antibacterial cream on it, right? You keep it clean as best you can and try to keep it dry. And as God begins to heal it, it's a little bit uncomfortable. It itches. It pinches. But that's how we know that it's healing. Uh spiritually, that's where so many of us stand this morning. I gotta tell you, Jamie, I swear you looked at my notebook this morning. We've been wounded by life, by friends, maybe family, maybe by a church. And today we're healing, but the process is a bit uncomfortable. It itches. People bother you. Huh? Churches bother you. Bosses and co-workers irritate you. Even family bugs you. And it seems everything has been sent to irritate you. Just to irritate you. Brothers and sisters, that's healing taking place. It's healing taking place. You're getting better. You're getting stronger. Hallelujah. Come on, Chrissy. My, it's so good to be back from our, what do you call a when a preacher goes on vacation for a long sabbatical? That's when they go on an extended, I wasn't on vacation, but I wasn't behind the pulpit. It's nice to be back from hiatus.
Lazarus Raised Yet Still Bound
SPEAKER_00We'll use hiatus. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, right? Your Bible said that Jesus spoke these words, Lazarus, come forth. Now I always like, and preachers like to say, that he shouted, Lazarus, come forth. I think he whispered it. I do. He didn't need to shout anything. But now your Bible, after it talks about him calling Lazarus out of the tomb, your Bible says a strange thing. It tells us that he came out of that tomb, out of death, bound hand and foot. Bound hand in foot. Now he could have came out in a polo shirt and dockers. Jesus raised him. But Jesus turns to his confounded disciples and says, loose him and let him go. Loose him and let him go. Jesus paid the price. Jesus is the miracle worker. Jesus just awakened the dead, but he tells his disciples to loose him and set him free. Glory. I think it portrays so many Christians' experience today. And the answer. And the answer. I'm saved, but I'm bound. I believe, but I got these shackles. I go to church, but something has a hold of me. You ever feel that way? You ever feel that way? You know the truth, but you don't think right. You know, but you don't feel right. You know, you know, but you don't hear right. If you're like me, we find ourselves in that situation a lot. This morning, this morning, you can be loose from that grip of darkness. You can be made over again. Today you can be free. Jesus said He came that we might have, not He didn't come just to save or to rescue. He said He came that we might have life and have it abundantly. The shackles can be broken, the bindings can be loosed, old things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new.

SPEAKER_00No penance, no payment, no guilt, no condemnation. His blood was shed just for you. And Brother Jeff, his blood was enough. His blood was enough.
Jeremiah 18 And The Potter’s Wheel
SPEAKER_00If you have your Bibles, turn with Chrissy, please, to Jeremiah 18. Jeremiah 18. Jeremiah begins his prophetic ministry when Israel was in serious spiritual trouble. Some say in their final decline. His prophecies, Jeremiah's, were more convicting than salvational. His forty-year ministry continually spoke of judgment and condemnation. Not something that we would flock to. He was considered by Israel a meddler and a traitor. He wasn't liked and respected by the world. But Jeremiah stayed focused. Glory, glory. He clung to his assigned task that God had given him. He did what God called him to do, what we would term today, he stayed in the spirit. He stayed in the spirit regardless of what people thought, what people said. What a tribute, I believe, to the character of this man and the grace and mercy of God. I've come to realize in the last years, many years, that this gospel is not popular. It never will be. Never. It's true, ministers will never find favor with the world. If you're waiting for everybody to love you as a pastor, pardon my English, but ain't gonna happen. True preachers, true men and women of God will not be respected by the world. In fact, the opposite is true. They will be despised. The apostle Paul said, and today is true by and large. The huge crowds aren't going to flock to truth. It's the few that will find it. The few that will find it. It's those that have accepted and were chosen for a work and are willing to be changed, made over, reworked, rehabilitated, and restored, if necessary, to stay in that narrow way. See, you're not alone. If you think, well, I was off on a little and then I came back. You're not alone. You're not alone. That's what that's what his business is. So let's read Jeremiah 18, 1 through 4. If you get, I'm sure you're all there. You had some time. Amen. 1 through 4.
SPEAKER_07The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause you to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter's house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter. So he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. Wow.
SPEAKER_00I used for a subject this morning a work on the will. A work on the will. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you, Lord. Thank you for this Old Testament trip into a New Testament message, Lord. I ask you to open the ears of your servants, Lord, to hear and to receive your word. I ask your anointing on me to rightly divide your word of truth, Lord. Let it be a lamp and a light. It is in the name of your beloved Son we pray. Amen and amen. Please be seated.
Fragile Vessels Made Useful Again
SPEAKER_00Sometimes in our life discouragement comes. Sometimes we don't understand why things happen like they do. Why there's loss, why someone's in pain, why we have to face the things that we do. And we're told not to question, but simply pray that God's will be done. Now from the prophet Jeremiah, this lesson, he's speaking to Judah, but this message is for all of us here this morning. God likens man to pottery. He compares us and reveals us as vessels of clay. Fragile and frail. Fragile and frail. Don't drop that pot, it's gonna break. But useful when handled carefully, capable of much service when maintained and used properly. How many of you know that clay pots or clay planters are are the finest containers for growing plants and flowers? Hands down, don't care. Wood, ceramic, plastic, none of them compare to clay. Because they have so many attributes, so many good things about them. They breathe, they allow water to pass through them, right through the clay, they maintain soil temperatures so your impatience don't burn out on a day like today. Clay is the way to go. But they break easily. Don't leave them outside after a freeze. You don't have a pot anymore. They stain, they mark easily, just like us. Just like us. Now the uniqueness of this spiritual comparison is that God is the potter, we're the work, and the Holy Spirit is the will. And I think as we go through this message, you'll see how that bears out. We have access, 24-7, to the potter, right? We also have access to the will who resides within us if we're saved. Hallelujah. For our entire walk on this planet, we can go back time and time again to the potter's wheel, and God will make us new. New glory. Do you remember that? How loving and patient he must be. He's still working on me. True. We won't be complete in being worked and reworked until we pass from this life as we know it. Never. Glory. Inconsistencies, cracks, imperfections, doubts, stains, disillusion, pain, hallelujah. And we can go back on that wheel again and again. And made all over again. Stronger. Stronger this time. Better. Able to contain more. You all know the clay for clay to be a little stronger. If you would make just a clay pot and use it, it'll fall apart. It needs to be fired. It needs to undergo some heat. Glory. Hallelujah. To become pottery, strong and true. Maybe you've been fired by tough times, by difficulties, by things you faced in your life. Think about that for a moment. In our walk with Christ, in our walk as a believer, as a Christian, how many times have you felt, okay, now I got it? Alright, now I got finally arrived. Spiritually, spiritually, now I'm, I don't want to say on top, but spiritually I'm I'm I'm here. Only to have something happen that damages your vessel. That stains it, that makes it unattractive. Maybe a bad relationship, maybe a bad church experience, maybe losing contact with truth, uh, or embracing a false religion or a false theology. And you needed to be back on the wheel. You need to be remade and redone. A brand new vessel. Our God, Jesus, is a renewing God. You have to receive this. He's a God of restoration, he's a God of rehabilitation, he's a rejuvenator. Glory. He's not a patcher, he's not a fixer-upper. He doesn't put tape on it and send you out. Amen. He makes you all over again. There's a process.
Reworked Through Heat And Hard Seasons
SPEAKER_00I hate to keep going back to horticulture, but there's a process, a type of pruning. It's called rejuvenation pruning. Amen, where you take like certain plants that a rhododendron, for instance, this time of year, you cut a rhododendron down to the ground if it's getting straggly or cut it to the ground and it comes back beautiful. Beautiful and big. I've got, I had straggly ones a couple of years ago. Cut them all the way down. They're beautiful six-foot rhododendrons that bloom beautifully this spring. But that was rejuvenation pruning. Laying an axe to the root of the tree. One of Satan's lies is that if we've allowed something that might not be the best thing to develop in our lives, or something happens in our lives, whatever it might be, whatever pain, whatever difficulty, whatever you're going through, whatever sin we find ourselves lost and hopeless. And Satan tells us, Satan whispers, and some religions tell you that, yeah, you're not good enough. You're not good enough. God can't use you. Some churches will tell you we don't want you in church anymore because you do that. Years ago in an Apollo church, Steph used to go there and conduct worship, and I used to accompany her, but they had a fiddle player there, a great fiddle player, uh that that loved the Lord. And we went there one Sunday night and for her worship service and uh the fiddle player wasn't there. I asked the pastor, where the where's the fiddle player? I I don't know if he's still alive or but that's why I'm not using his name. He says, Well, he was caught doing that or this. I don't know whether it was drinking or smoking or whatever he was doing. So we put him out of the church. And I think the thought becomes when something like that happens, as ungodly as that is, when something like that happens, we start to think, well, I might as well just continue on in darkness. I might as well just stay in the sin. I might as just, what's the use? That's not what God said. God said, Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, I will give you rest. Get back on the potter's wheel. Get back on the crawl if you have to. Get back on the wheel, get on the wheel, get soaked in the water of the Holy Ghost, let him rework you. He will allow the master's hand to remake you, smooth the rough edges, fill in the cracks and the flaws. Let him restore you, not just to your, not just to your previous position, not just to where you were, but better and higher and stronger, filled fuller, full battle position. Glory. With a passion to serve God, to be in the will of God, to hear God's voice. That's what it takes. That's what it takes to hear God's voice. Not to become complacent, not to give up, not to turn aside and go, oh well, get back on the wheel.
Yielding To God Instead Of Sin
SPEAKER_00Romans 6. You know I you knew I was coming to the New Testament. 6 and 10. For in that he died, he died unto sin once. But in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto our God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, that ye should obey it in the lust thereof. Neither yield ye your members as the instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall n listen, for sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace. What then? What then? The literal translation is, are you nuts? What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace, God forbid. Know ye not to whom ye yield yourselves, servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death or obedience unto righteousness. Paul explains to these believers in Rome and to us that we have a choice. We have a choice to yield to God and his will and enjoy an abundance of faith. By faith or yield to doubt and hurt and pain from the past. Amen. And live a defeated life. That's the choices. He gives us two. Yielding to God to light lifts us up above our circumstances.
The Cross As The Answer
SPEAKER_00We sing a song, a chorus, an old chorus, we've sung it for years, and it's from John 12. It's it comes from Jesus' statement, and I, if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me. And I think we sang lift Jesus higher, but I think we sang it as the idea of lift the name of Jesus higher. But the reference is the cross. That's the reference. If I'm, Jesus said, if I am lifted up from the earth on the cross, I will draw all men unto me, the cross, the cross, his crucifixion. Jesus lifted up is what we preach. That's the only way a church will be successful. That's the only way a minister can be successful. To preach Christ and Him crucified. Christ and Him crucified. Valley Gospel Church, our our our our identity isn't the Holy Spirit baptism. It's we preach Christ and Him crucified. Glory. We are yielded to that which Jesus accomplished at the cross. At the cross where I where I first saw the light. Hallelujah, Karen. At the cross where my burdens rolled away. At the cross where I receive my sight. At the cross, at the base of which everything is level and even. Doesn't matter where we come from, who we are, what our background is, everything is level at the base of the cross. Glory. His love, God's love that allowed him to lay down his life in the first place. The cross, the cross, the cross. Everything comes through the cross. I'm in a marital problem. The answer is in the cross. Glory. I have a health concern. The answer is in the cross. I'm swamped by problems you wouldn't understand, Pastor. The answer is in the cross. He lifts us up above our problems. You know, that's that's what some Christians miss and we lose our way. We expect fulfilling our needs to mean getting what we want, getting what we think is appropriate. We expect God to move on our behalf in our way and within our parameters. And if it turns out different than what we expected, uh getting what we want, we get discouraged. Sometimes we feel left let down. I don't know what to do, Pastor. I don't know where to turn. When in fact it's not what the Bible teaches. It's not what the Bible says. The Bible says living abundantly is living a like life of joy, peace, and happiness regardless of our circumstance. Yeah, we don't want to hear that. Fix me and I'll be happy. Supply and I'll be happy. Does God supply? Sure. Does God heal? You bet. And we need to ask, as Jamie said this morning, need to ask big. Need to ask big. He's a big God. Nothing's impossible. So I said, I always think about that. When he raised Lazarus from the dead, he could have come out in cutoffs and dockers. Knowing the full story of God's ultimate control of our lives.
Knowing God’s Way Versus Surrender
SPEAKER_00We need to know that full story. You know, it's one thing to have eternal life, to know heaven is our eternal home. It's a very, it's a it's another thing entirely to live by faith. To walk by faith, to be able to call things that are not as though they were. It's one thing to be made the righteousness of God, it's another to understand his righteousness in our lives. What it means. What does that mean? It's one thing to know God's way, it's completely another thing to yield to his way. I know his way, yeah, but I'm gonna do it my way. I'm gonna do it how I see fit. Amen. Or how I think he wants it. Glory. Jesus tells us to be still and listen, and he'll reveal his will for your life. He will. And make you over as many times as is necessary. Not once. There's no limit. There's no limit like I messed up last week. I got one more coming. It's not like nine lives in a cat. He'll fix you, he'll make you brand new every time you come. And every time you come to the potter's wheel, he'll bring you into a closer walk with him. Glory. Back on the table to get your heart right. Back on the wheel to get your mind right. Back on the table to get your walk right. Back on the table to put you in a position where you ought to be. Glory. Look, God places his children where they need to be. Where they need to be. We can all relate just this week so many things.
God Places You Where You Need
SPEAKER_00Why did God did this or that? My brother was telling me a story about you'll appreciate this, Terry. But one night in the Ardennes Forest, they my dad was really good, I guess, at digging a foxhole to hide in. He dug nice holes. And obviously, I appreciate that. But he was on he was on guard duty that night, and a a fellow soldier came up to him and says, Bill, can I use your hole tonight since you're on guard duty? And he said, Sure, go ahead. And a shell hit right in my dad's foxhole. And God puts you where you need to be. Not sure what that's about. Uh not sure is that God knew his son would be a preacher. I don't know. I don't know, and I certainly wouldn't make that claim. But it Hallelujah. If you if we're in God's will, you will be where you're supposed to be. Uh you know, we're concerned sometimes with geography. Uh when we need where we need to be geographically, the place, the church, uh, or or even what you're called to do. I don't know if I'm supposed to sing. I don't know if I should go there. I don't know if I should go here. Uh I don't know if this is what God wants. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added unto you. They'll all be given. What does that mean? It means that this vessel of clay that's is being softened into play-doh consistency. Huh? Hallelujah. Into play-doh on the potter's wheel, where we allow the image of God in which you and I were created to be stamped into the clay. You're his. You're his. You belong to the king. Glory. You remember when Jesus was asked by the disciple about taxes? And he said, Who's on the coin? Caesar. Then give it to Caesar. Glory. You were made in the image of God Almighty. His word is stamped in your heart. Glory. Second Corinthians.
Treasure In Earthen Vessels
SPEAKER_00And I'll hurry. Well, I won't hurry. Second Corinthians 4. Seven. Four and seven. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence excellency of the powers may be of God and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed, distressed. We are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken, cast down but not destroyed, always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. Wow, what a scripture verse. What a powerful instruction. If you are a born-again, uh blood-bought, blood-washed, word-believing child of God, made in his image, then you have God has called you to a ministry. You're not a spectator in Christianity or just congregation. You are a part of God's great plan. Everyone in here this morning is a part of God's great plan. That evangelist, the pastor, the teacher has no more insight or supernatural power than you can have. It may be different, it may be varied, but God's power is available in the same or greater quantity. Glory. But to whom much is given, much is required. Glory. You're limited only by your desire to yield to his will. What will we yield to? Or what won't we yield to? Because as you sow, so shall you reap. As you're planting. The treasure which is in an earthen vessel is subject to life's twists and turns, cracks and chips, and all the marks that we'll we'll be subjected to. But the life of Jesus is made manifest in us. His life is made manifest in us. We're a work in progress. We're a work in progress. A work still on the wool wheel.
Have Thine Own Way And Closing Prayer
SPEAKER_00A woman, call it, you'll appreciate this. You probably know this. A woman at prayer meeting one night pleaded with the Lord to have his way in her life despite her circumstances. At that meeting was Adelaide Pollard. She was a well-known Bible teacher who was so discouraged that night because she was unable to raise the funds for a teaching mission that she had sponsored. She was so moved by this woman's prayer that God led her to Jeremiah 18, which is our scripture for today. And as she meditated on the word of God, all right, Karen, you listening? As she meditated on the word of God, God gave her all the verses and chorus to our beloved hymn, Have Thine Own Way. My have thine own way, Lord. Have thine own way. Thou art the potter. I am the clay. Mold me and make me after thy will, while I am waiting, yielded and still. No matter where you find yourself in your walk, no matter where you find yourself this this morning, this afternoon, God can make you a brand new work on the will. Amen.

Why We Hold Back In Worship
SPEAKER_00Sometimes in worship and in praise, we tend to be conservative or restrained. Uh maybe out of our comfort zone or maybe because of what people might think, or you were thinking that it may not appear dignified. Well, Colette brought a month or so ago on seven types of praise that are outlined in the Bible. Uh and they'll Colette and Steph will elucidate on what those types of praise are, and then we're going to demonstrate what those types of praise are. So collette. Okay.

Seven Biblical Ways To Praise
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like Pastor said, these praises are described and their roots are in Hebrew words. So Steph, pronounce that first Hebrew word for us.
Kneeling Reverence Demonstration
SPEAKER_01Barak. That means to bow down and kneel in submission, blessing the Lord, giving reverence to him in recognition of his majesty, his sovereignty, and his holiness.
SPEAKER_00Hallelujah. It comes from Psalm 72, if you're looking for it. I'm going to ask my brother Ted to come up here and demonstrate barak. Barak. In quiet, reflective, composed worship. Kneeling or prostrate on the floor. Barak. A type of worship. Amen. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Okay. How about that second one,
Unrestrained Celebration Demonstration
SPEAKER_01Steph? Halal. That's the root of the word hallelujah. And it is boisterous, energic, energetic, celebratory praise.
SPEAKER_00This comes from Psalms 150. I'm gonna ask Daniel to demonstrate this, not because, not a reflection on his demeanor, but I just know he's brave enough to do it. To boast, to rave, to be clamorously foolish is what the Bible says. To act madly. That's this kind of praise. That's the kind of praise it is, Daniel. Show us. Show us that kind of praise. Hallelujah! Yes, that's a dance. Praise his holy name. Thank you, Daniel.
SPEAKER_01You know, King, we've got a picture of that in the in the scriptures with King David, right? Yeah. He was dancing before the Lord as the Ark of the Covenant was coming into Jerusalem. And the scriptures say that he danced with all of his might, almost so much as his clothes were coming off, but he was unrestrained and uninhibited.
SPEAKER_00And his wife called him a madman.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. She said, Oh, so un so foolish for the king to act like that. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, Steph, that
Lifted Hands And Surrender Demonstration
SPEAKER_01third one. Yada. That means to worship with extended or lifted hands in complete surrender. It's a type of praise that is a cry for help when we are desperate and need a victory from the Lord. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Comes from Psalms 145. Yada. It means to revere with extended hands, to hold out hands as if shooting an arrow or throwing a rock. Chrissy, would you demonstrate yaddah? Hallelujah. Glory. SPEAKER_00Glory, glory, glory. Comes from Psalms 117 to address in a loud tongue, to shout, be ready for this, to hoot, to whistle. Sam, come up here. Come up and demonstrate Shabbat. Glory, glory, glory. Glory.

Thanksgiving As A Sacrifice
SPEAKER_01Todah. Toda is the sacrifice of praise or thanksgiving, often lifting hands in anticipation of what God will do.
SPEAKER_00Amen. From Psalms 56, Toda, giving thanks, extension of the hand. By we hear a whole time in churches, by the uplifted hand. Jeff, come up here and demonstrate this, brother. Get somebody to take your place. I know you're busy. With the uplifted hand, palms raised toward heaven. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Amen.
