Waters To Swim In

Ankle deep is comfortable. It’s also where a lot of believers quietly stop. We start with a simple story about backyard ponds and all the unexpected life that gathers around moving water, then we open Ezekiel 47 and follow the river that rises from the temple until it becomes “waters to swim in.” That picture becomes our guide for spiritual growth, showing how salvation is the starting point and how the Holy Spirit keeps calling us deeper.
We talk honestly about control and why we cling to the bottom even when we say we trust God. Sometimes it’s what the doctor said, what the numbers say, what family thinks, or what the situation looks like. The turning point comes when we cannot touch bottom anymore and Jesus takes the lead. From there we confront the risk of spiritual deadness, why the damage often starts from within, and what happens when churches push the Holy Spirit into the background while trying to keep faith neat and manageable.
With John 7 and Romans 8, we lean into Pentecostal conviction that the Spirit is not an accessory but our life force, our helper, and the power that brings real change. We end with a direct challenge: living things reproduce, so Spirit-filled believers don’t just survive, they share Jesus and produce disciples through the Great Commission. Backyard Ponds And Unexpected Life
SPEAKER_00I had some work to do around the ponds at my house. Now these aren't natural ponds, they don't flow, they're filled with tap water. I have six ponds, filters the whole thing. Rude the day that I put them in because there's so much work. But I'm always amazed at the life around this little water course. It has waterfalls and streams, and as I said, these ponds were built with a liner and filters and stone. Added a few fish, goldfish, and a few years later, they're teeming with life. It's incredible. Tadpoles, frogs, uh toads, spring peepers, crayfish, snakes, water snakes even, have had them there. Plants I never planted have just shown up. Dragonflies, bees love it. Hummingbirds love the ponds, cattails, those little water skippers, they call them striders, right? Just your presence.
Ezekiel’s River From The Temple
SPEAKER_00Turn to Ezekiel 47. Do you carry a lunch bucket, Chrissy? Do you? I'm proud of you. As I did that work around the ponds, I was reminded of the opening scripture that Chrissy's gonna read. And I realized the word of God is so powerful. It works even in the little things in our life. The little things that aren't monumental, just the little day-to-day things, how the word of God works. Seemingly insignificant areas, our homes, our hobbies at work. And the word works in our relationships, in our careers, in our families. God's word is effective in every aspect of our being. Amen. So turn with uh Chrissy, please, to Ezekiel forty-seven, verses one through nine. Ezekiel forty-seven, one through nine.
SPEAKER_01Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and there was water flowing from under the threshold of the temple, toward the east. For the front of the temple faced east. The water was flowing from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar. He brought me out by the way of the north gate. He led me around on the outside to the outer gateway that faces east. And there was water running on the right side. And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand, he measured one thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters. The water came up to my ankles. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters. The waters came up to my knees. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters, came up to my waist. Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross, for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim, a river that could not be crossed. He said to me, Son of man, have you seen this? Then he brought me and returned me to the bank of the river. When I returned there, along the bank of the river, were very many trees, on one side and the other. Then he said to me, This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the river goes, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish because these waters go there, for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river
Growing Deeper Until You Must Swim

SPEAKER_00Wow, wow. The water that proceeds from the throne are now waters to swim in. And there's a wealth of meaning of those prophetic words of Brother Ezekiel as it pertains to the spiritual growth of a child of God. The supernatural progression, I love, I love how it's explained to us. Beginning with our salvation, our acceptance of Jesus Christ. That's just the beginning. We teach it the uh the opposite way nowadays. We teach it, you're saved, everything's okay, you're done. You can stop here. That's the beginning.
SPEAKER_01Amen.
SPEAKER_00That's not the ending, it's the beginning. Uh and following the course of this river, that river being in fact a type of the Holy Spirit, just for some perspective, and I don't know if you've ever been, but if you've ever been to the headwaters of the Allegheny River, it's in Cowdersport, Pennsylvania. Uh about ten miles northeast of Cowdersport, you can throw a rock underhand across the Allegheny River. Now we have our perspective is here, right? That you could barely drive a golf ball across it. But in at its headwaters, it then travels 325 miles to Pittsburgh where it joins the Monongahela to make the Ohio. That river is a type of Holy Spirit. That supernatural progression in our life starts where it's only ankle deep, then knee deep, then waist deep, until we can no longer touch the bottom. Until we can no longer touch the bottom, no longer stand, listen, stand on our own. Glory. Glory. Waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. We've been enveloped by the full force and the full course of that river of life. Glory. As we'll see in this morning's message, that seems to me that it's some kind of combination from last week's message and what we touched on in Bible study on Wednesday evening. The point being that vitality, vitality, life is key. Amen. And I promise I'll clear all that up. I'll use for a subject this morning waters to swim in. Amen. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you, Lord. Lord, I thank you for this Old Testament trip, Lord, that you revealed these little nuanced subjects to me, Lord. And why you would choose to reveal them to me, I don't know. But I thank you for that, Lord. I ask you to help me reveal them to your children, Lord, your people, Lord, who have come here for a word from you. It is in the name of your precious, beloved, August, all-powerful, soon coming Son we pray. Amen and amen. Please be seated. Jesus gives us life more abundantly, right? We've all read that scripture. We've all heard that phrase. Life, living, alive. Wherever the river shall come, everything shall live. And I love how the King James says it in verse 9. And it shall come to pass that everything that liveth, which moveth whithersoever the river shall come, shall live. Jesus is alive. God is alive. The Holy Spirit is alive. His word is alive. He, the Holy Spirit, imparts life into us. Not just life, but divine life. Glory. Not just living, but vibrant living. And as we learned in our study, we need that continual reviving. We need that. We need the renewing. We need the enlivening. We need the equipping if we are to spread his light. We're enlivened, brothers and sisters, as that pointed out in the opening. We are enlivened through the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Look, we all know some people, or maybe we were those people, or maybe you are those people. I don't know. That once knew the way, that once witnessed for the Lord, that once shared his love. And we loved the Lord with all our heart, but somehow they were overcome by darkness. An onslaught by devils, demons that turned a promising warrior into an emissary of evil. And maybe you're thinking, no, wait, brother, my friend is just in a faith crisis. My wife is just in a faith crisis. She'll be all right. She's struggling a little bit. He's not evil, he's not on the side of darkness. Jesus said, if you're not with me, you're against me. He said, if you're not pressing forward, you're sliding backwards. And that slide always ends in the pit. If you're not all in, you're all out. I know that's harsh. I didn't say it. He did. Amen. When a Christian or a church is attacked, weakened, destroyed, it's usually not from the lures of this world.
The Real Threat Comes From Within
SPEAKER_00Usually the pastor doesn't say, Boy, I'd like to do that. That's not usually where the attack comes from, where the temptation comes from. It's almost always from within. Almost always from within. In other words, that rejection of all that we hold dear is from within. It's an inside job. I'll explain that as we move forward. And how do we know that? Well, John 10 and 28 says, the Lord holds us in the hollow of his hand. Amen. And no man can pluck us out. Regarding the Christian. As far as the church goes, Matthew 18 says, Upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. So if those two things are true, if a Christian, a believer, isn't able to be plucked out of God's hands, and the church is fortified and protected from satanic attack, if those two things are true, what allows a man or a woman or church, a ministry, a minister, an elder, a worship leader to fall to the level where they can be used of the devil? How can that happen if those two scriptures are true? They can be used against God's people, against the church, against brothers and sisters, against the word of God. And maybe. Amen. As I would like to be. I'm going through some things. If we're not striving to go deeper in those waters, I don't care where you're at, whether you're in ankle deep water or knee-deep water or waist deep water, the key is our striving to go deeper. Striving to go deeper. In Ezekiel's vision, when we're in the first three depths, ankles, knees, waist, we have some degree of control. Amen? Right, we can do it our way. I think I heard someone say that this morning. We can kind of do it our way. We'll accept a little bit of this, but then we can do it our way. Even when in that river, even when our nose is the only thing that's out of the air, out of the water, we still have some degree of control because our toes have the bottom. They're clinging on. We're holding back because our toes are on familiar ground. Glory. I hope you're receiving this. Our toes cling to what the doctor says as gospel. Our toes hold on to what your family says. Your toes hold on to what the situation looks like, to what the bank account reads, to what your boss thinks. Glory. But when the waters are risen, there are waters to swim in. A river that can't be passed over. You can't touch bottom any longer. Jesus is in control. The Holy Ghost is at the helm. You're listening to Him, you're hearing His voice. So how do so many Christians and churches find themselves in that position? The answer is simple and straightforward. And this is revelation truth. The answer is death. Death. Death in this sense. Lifeless. Lifeless. Dead churches, dead pastors producing dead Christians, dead Christians whose only thought is, what's in it for me? What can I gain? Dead sermons that talk about his kingdom of heaven as far as what used to be or what will be, but nothing about his kingdom now. Here and now. Glory. Dead preachers and dead churches preaching dead sermons to dead congregations produces nothing. Nothing. Jesus raised up and birthed the church on the day of Pentecost, 2000 years ago, as a living, moving, adapting, enduring until the end, organism of his love and his mercy. We are his body, the church of the living God, fathered in the mind of God Almighty and paid for by the Lord Jesus Christ, paid in full, I might add. And held strong, held together by the Holy Spirit of promise. Glory. That's the way he designed it. That's the way it works. The song, I forget who wrote it. Every stronghold of bondage must get beneath our feet. Every prisoner held captive must be freed. Our deliverance comes through the power of the Son with a bloodbot, the
Rejecting The Spirit Rejects Life
SPEAKER_00church, the redeemed. Glory, glory, glory. Until the end. All that until the end. What's the end? When Christ returns for his church. Where the Spirit of the Lord moves, there's life. Where the Spirit of the Lord is welcome, there are waters to swim in. You're alive. Are you alive this morning? Are you alive this morning? If we because if we reject this life-giving force, if we put it in the if we put this life-giving force in the back room or downstairs or in the basement, if we reject the manifestations of the Holy Spirit, maybe he's mentioned, but he's not leading. His guidance, maybe in a prayer in the name of the Spirit, maybe we do that. But his ministry is completely rejected. What do you mean? I'll make it plain. Maybe we think, well, you know, I like the church, I like the music, I like the message, but I don't need the emotion. I don't need the emotion. The crying, the tongues, uh, the loud praises. I like a I like a somber, more demure place of worship. And I think I think there's just too much emotion. I've heard that a hundred times, especially in regard to Pentecostalism. Uh as we talked about on Wednesday night, David danced before God in worship. He danced with joy. Must have been an emotional time. Amen. His wife mocked his dance, told him he was immature, told him he was an embarrassment, and God cursed her with barrenness. How do you think he feels? How do you think your God feels about emotional being emotional? Glory. I'm sorry, being rescued from hell is emotional. When I think about it, it makes me emotional. Amen. Being delivered from bondage is emotional. Being healed, body, mind, spirit is emotional. The Holy Spirit is the Christian's life force, our power to overcome darkness. He's our kingdom vision, our internal witness that tells us we're saved and he keeps us saved. Glory. The Greek calls him paraclete, right? Parakletos. Amen. One called alongside to help. Why do we reject his help? Why do we reject his help? No, thank you. I've got this. He's our fuel, he's our vehicle, he's our electrician, he's our police, he's our comforting God. Glory. Jesus is our reason for living, but the Holy Ghost makes us alive. Glory, glory, glory. Alive, strong, vibrant, able to resist evil. Able to resist that which comes against us, able to stay focused on what God called us to, rather than looking at the circumstance or your pastor or the church or your family or your brother or sister. Glory.
Rivers Of Living Water In Us
SPEAKER_00All right, that was all introduction. Let's get to the message. Living things along that river of life affects the environment. Glory. John seven. John seven and thirty-seven. In the last days, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him should receive. For the Holy Ghost was not yet given because that Jesus was not yet glorified. Many of the people, therefore, when they heard this saying, said of a truth, this is the prophet. Living affects, Holy Ghost living affects the environment. The Greek word for for uh belly is koilia. It means heart, womb, innermost being. Uh and and I'm not just showing off Greek words. There's a point to this, all right? Uh in the Greek word for spirit is pneuma. It means wind or superhuman. Wind or superhuman. Now in the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for spirit is ruach. It means wind or innermost being. Uh all three of those words, uh, pneuma, and ruach, we see all of these words are used exactly as God intended. Exactly. The wind, superhuman, and an internal witness, an inside witness. Neither the wind nor the Holy Spirit is governed by anyone or anything. In other words, you know, they tell you we have a tornado warning. You can't put something up to protect yourself. Right? Run or go underground. You can't stop that. Hurricane, same thing. Can't stop the wind. Can't stop the Holy Spirit. The wind and the spirit, neither are submissive or subservient to any earthly person or thing. Uncontrolled. And when you think about the wind, the wind can be strong and powerful, as we mentioned, like a tornado, or it can be kind and gentle like a cool ocean breeze. Most of you have been to the shore, right? Uh uh Ocean City, Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach. All along the coast, there's life. All along the coast, there's life. Uh shops, people, fish, birds, and everything you could imagine, right along the edge of the water. It's the same with the Holy Ghost. It's the same. When you're swimming in living water, there's life all around you. Uh where the spirit flows, there is life. And maybe you're thinking, if you're not, if you're struggling with Pentecost, and maybe you're thinking, yeah, I'm gonna stay inland. Uh why me? I'm gonna stay on dry dock. I don't even like the water. I certainly don't want to get wet. And if you're asking why, here's the answer to your why. Because you are the temple of God and the spirit of God dwelleth in you. Glory. When we allow the spirit to move in our life, in our church, in our ministry, family will be affected. Glory. Relationships will change, job conditions will change, circumstances will improve, the physical can be changed. Glory. You reside in rivers of living water. Romans 8. Romans 8 and 9. Living things, living things create. They create. Romans 8 and 9. But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit. If so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you, now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin. But the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors not to the flesh to lift that live after the flesh. But if ye live after the flesh, you shall die. But if you through the spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. The Holy Ghost is our dynamo for life.
Resurrection Power That Quickens Us
SPEAKER_00Do you realize it's he, the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead that infused the abused and battered and lifeless corpse of Jesus of Nazareth? He's the one. Jesus was killed and crucified. Dead. Dead. Tortured, murdered, dead. No doubt. He came to the same place prematurely that all of us will face one day. No matter our carefulness or our health consciousness or our diet or our lifestyle, we're all going, right? Nothing could stop the death of Jesus Christ. Nothing. Nothing on earth. Nothing could keep him from suffering. That cruel death. He lay in that borrowed tomb. The hope of all of his followers was destroyed. The fate of mankind hanged in the balance. But the Holy Ghost visited that tomb. Jesus had been dead two and a half days. The Bible tells us that corruption had seized upon him. His heart, his heart was stealing hard, his eyes closed over and gray. Glory. His muscles were seized. No blood flowed through his veins. Riga Mortis was fully set in. He was discolored. He was stiff. He was lifeless. But the Holy Spirit visited that tomb with regenerating power. And Jesus' eyes cleared and brightened. Stiff muscles relaxed. Hallelujah. Coagulated blood began to flow again. That cold, silent heart was made to beat again. His lungs re-inflated with brand new air. Hallelujah. The Holy Spirit created life where there was none. Glory. And he's doing the same thing today. In the church, in this church, in your life, he'll create in you a new heart. Glory. He'll breathe fresh air in your lungs. He'll create in you joy and power and peace. Waters to swim in. A river that could not be passed over.
Reproducing Christians And The Great Commission
SPEAKER_00And finally, living things produce. Maybe a better way to reproduce. John fifteen. John fifteen, just reading one verse and thirteen and all. Greater love hath no man than this. That a man lay down his life for his friend. When the Holy Spirit controls our lives, Christians begin to produce Christians. And producing Christians is our calling. That's what next week is, next Saturday is all about. Producing Christians. Don't misunderstand, not by natural means or having more children. Producing Christians, see, isn't a gift, and it isn't a choice. It's what we're called to do. It's what we've been ordered to do. How? By being witnesses of Christ, by preaching Christ and Him crucified, by leading others to Jesus, by pointing the way to Him. That's what we're called to do. That's our job. If we are not using opportunities to share the love of God, then we're not doing what God has called us to do. If we're not sharing Jesus with your family, friends, co-workers, children, somebody you run into at Walmart, if you're not doing that, you're not doing, you're not fulfilling the Great Commission. And what's the Great Commission? Go you into all the world and preach the gospel to every leave living creature. For what purpose? To make Christians. To bring them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. It's not a suggestion, it's a command. It's command. It's what he told us to do. You see, we're children of the light. And I'm sure you know you are. We're alive. How many of you know in nature every living thing is centered on reproduction? Everything. Everything. Plant, animal, doesn't matter. Fish. Everything's centered on reproduction. Even at great personal cost. And that's what makes that verse so powerful. In nature, the Bible says, lest the corn of wheat fall to the ground and die, new life can't spring up. Amen. And in nature, many living things give their lives to make more, to reproduce. Amen. Any trout fishermen in here, you trout fishermen, there's uh a mayfly hatch that the trout love and they feed on, and it starts the little worm on the stream bottom. It lives for one day. It hatches, comes up out of the water, flies upstream, has to fly upstream, because if it didn't, there wouldn't be any mayflies in the stream anymore. Flies upstream, lays its egg, and dies. Wow. Huh? I'm thinking whether I should tell you this, but uh. A drone bee. It's a boy bee. All right? There's only a few in the hive. Uh some hives have more, but their only job is to sit around and eat honey and hope they get a chance to mate with a queen. A new queen. All right? When they do, when they get the chance, these drones fight for the opportunity to mate with this new queen. When they do that, the drone who gets the august privilege of mating with the queen, after he does, he explodes in mid-air. Dead. Gone. The rest of the drones in the hive after the queen, oh, and incidentally, she when she conceives, probably five million eggs. Ready to start a whole new life. But the drones that remained that didn't get the opportunity to mate with the queen, first cold night, all the girls in the hive put them out. Put them out, they're frozen on the snow. Because they're of no value anymore. They're of no use. Jesus laid down his life as payment for our sin and as an example that caused him to exclaim the words, greater love hath no man than he laid down his life for his friends. How many Christians have believed for years and never shared the gospel with anybody? Stood in ankle deep water the whole time. Some of those closest to you, maybe they don't even know you're born again. We've been in church for years, never waited to the knees, certainly not any deeper. Never shared this pearl of great price. Glory. His great salvation so full and so free. Everything about life, everything about living is about sharing the love of Jesus. Getting off of the shore, going through the waters till till our feet don't touch anymore. Till we're that's what's meant by being free in the spirit, bobbing along, bobbing along in the current. He got me. Glory. Whole bunch of people say he got me and he don't got you. He don't got you. Uh-uh. Uh laying down self-life and self-will and personal gain, letting go to experience all that God has for us. Everything. The full gospel makes a full Christian. That's not just something that they did that they made up at the full gospel. Uh what was his name? Zamias. Greek guy used to have the full gospel breakfast, men's breakfast. Sicarious Tsukima. Anyway. I'll close with this
Presence Before Platform Then Closing
SPEAKER_00scripture. Genesis 50. Genesis 50 and 20. Ooh, I love when I'm sounding hoarse. Feeling like I'm preaching, you know? Genesis 50 and 20. But as for you, you thought evil against me, but God means it unto good to bring to pass as it is this day to save much people alive. Wow. Wow. What you meant for evil, what the devil meant for evil is repeated in the New Testament. What the devil meant for evil, God turns to good. Christianity is all about others. It is. Giving them truth, pointing them to redemption, going into the highways, highways and hedges and convincing them to come in, being a reflection of the great light, holding our candle high, not under a bushel, being a messenger of God. But here's the thing being a messenger of God is what we're called to do. But first we need to be shaped by the presence of God before we can be a messenger. Uh and look, platforms without presence, microphones without mantle or influence without intimacy ain't gonna cut it. And what do you mean by all that rhyme and stuff? No, it's not gonna cut it because somebody who who's bringing you the word, somebody who stands behind the sacred desk, better have a relationship with God. Because if we're up here phoning it in, or I'm just throwing out something that sounds good, I'm in trouble. I'm in serious trouble. It just isn't God's way. A.W. Tozer wrote, uh the messenger must first be a worshiper. A messenger must first be a worshiper, first touched by the fire of God before he dare put a coal to the lips of another. Amen. SPEAKER_03The reason I shout and sing, Jehovah, the Lion of Flame, the God who breaks every chain. No one can stop what you started in me. I am alive and I've been set free. I am El Shaddai Elohim, you are by everything. My banner, my glory, my king. The reason I shout and say, Jehovah, the lion, the flame, the God who breaks every chain. No one can stop what you started in me. I am alive and I've been set free. I am El Shaddai and One. You are my everything.
SPEAKER_04Race to life. Our God is able. Our God is able. Lift it up. Oh, we defeated the great race to life. Our God is able. In his name. Oh, we overcome. We will overcome. Oh, the Lord. Our God is safe. Lift it up. Oh, he defeated the grave. Hallelujah. Trace the life. Our God is safe. And in his name, oh we overcome. We will come for the Lord. Our God is able. For the Lord. Our God is able.

SPEAKER_03Hallelujah. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son. And whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. And he's calling us to walk out of the dark. He's given us new resurrected hearts.
SPEAKER_04Sing it again. Yes, Lord. He's given us new resurrected hearts. Sing it again. He's calling us to walk out of the dark. Hallelujah. He's given us new resurrected hearts. So come on and rise up. Take the breath you're alive now. Can't you hear the voice of Jesus calling us? Up from the grave like Lazarus and your brand new. Power and death could not hold you.
