Not My King

Pastor Bob Ezatoff Season 2 Episode 39

Send us a text

What if the quiet ache behind your battles isn’t a lack of willpower but a misplaced crown? We open the scriptures to a bracing, hope-filled truth: Jesus isn’t waiting to reign someday—he reigns now. From Revelation 11’s coronation to Revelation 19’s marriage supper, we trace how Christ’s victory over death disarms every lesser enemy and how that shifts the way we pray, give, change, and praise.

We talk candidly about the “other kings” we invite onto our thrones—money, titles, relationships, even religious opinions—and why they leave us anxious and defeated. In a true kingdom, everything belongs to the crown, so we reframe stewardship as trust in the King’s provision rather than fear of the future. We lean on 2 Corinthians 3:18 to show why there’s no neutral in discipleship: under a present King, we move from glory to glory. And we press a practical question: do we approach Jesus as a helpful companion or as the sovereign who answers, acts, and delights to meet his people?

This conversation aims to remove the veil of unbelief and restore a royal confidence in everyday faith. Praying to a reigning King changes how we carry Monday’s problems. Praising a reigning King dethrones rivals in our hearts. And welcoming a reigning King within us reclaims peace from spiritual harassment. As the vision rises—angels, trumpets, the armies in white—we anchor our hope in the future that is already shaping the present: the King is here, and he does not share the throne.

If this message helped you re-center your life under Jesus’ crown, share it with a friend, subscribe for more, and leave a review. Tell us: what “other king” do you need to dethrone this week?

SPEAKER_01:

Hello, welcome to Valley Gospel Church. We are a non-denominational Pentecostal church located in Springdale, Pennsylvania. Our sole mission is to present the living truth of a risen Lord, Jesus Christ, to a remnant church and a lost world. So let's go into the service recorded live at Valley Gospel Church. Okay.

SPEAKER_00:

Just give you a little tiny story. Uh one day this summer we were doing some stonework and uh I don't even remember where it was now, but I cut my hand, my arm uh enough that Ted took notice. And usually he'd let him bleed. But he even took notice and was helping patch me up. And I figured I better clean it out before I did, before I put up, found some nice big uh bandages in the first aid kit, and hands were all muddy, figured I better clean up a little bit first, but we couldn't get to any water, so we emptied our water bottles and tried to clean it up just a little bit. But I said, wait, and in the first aid kit I found these alcohol swabs, and I figured, and I figured that'll work. Oh, did it sting? But that's how I knew it was working. Today's message is just like that. It's gonna sting a little bit, but if it if it does, you'll know it's working for what God intended. So I'll ask you to treat it as a bomb. Amen. That we're just we're putting a bandage on, all right? Uh Christy, let's go to work. I want to begin this morning's uh message with a question. A question that I think is appropriate and maybe we'll speak to you. If all this Bible stuff is true, if God parted the Red Sea, if He caused the sons to stand still, if He heals the sick, if He raised the dead, if He multiplied the loaves and the fishes, then why am I dealing with all this stuff in my life? Why am I struggling? Uh why is there turmoil? After all, am I not, are you not, a king's kid? And I I don't like that term, King'skid. Not saying that it's wrong, actually it's pretty accurate, but I tend to not like it because it seems flippant to me or unmajestic or plus it's focused on what can we get? We're a king'skid, so we get the candy. We get the best, we get the best clothes, we get the but if all that's so, if I am a child of the king, uh why do we sometimes live our lives as if we're orphans and abandoned? Uh in nearly every case, it's because Jesus is not really our king. Uh sadly, Christians have adopted a culture of unbelief. And you say, Oh, Pastor, how can you say that? I hear pastors say, well, the virgin birth wasn't really virgin. They didn't put all the animals on the ark. I've heard this from Christian pastors. Uh the Red Sea didn't actually part, it was just low tide. These are ministers of the gospel. It's a culture that's been centered on another king and another kingdom, not the one that Jesus brought, not the one for which he is the undisputed king. And the sneaky part of this satanic ruse is in those, and I use this term with some uh it's the reason that so-called ministries have not replaced Jesus, understand, with another king. We've simply added other kings to the kingdom. Are you following?

SPEAKER_01:

Yes.

SPEAKER_00:

And I'd like to open this message with a glorious vision uh given to John on the Isle of Patmos regarding the king. It's found in Revelation eleven. Revelation eleven beginning with the fifteenth verse. Fifteen through the end of the chapter.

SPEAKER_01:

And the four and twenty elders which sat before God on their seats fell upon their faces and worship God, saying, We give you thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which are and was and are to come, because you have taken to yourself your great power and have reigned, and the nations were angry, and your wrath has come, in the time of the dead that they should be judged, and that you should give reward unto your servants, the prophets, and to the saints, and to them who fear your name, small and great, and should destroy them which destroy the earth. And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament, and there were lightnings and voices and thunderings and an earthquake and great hail.

SPEAKER_00:

I use for a subject this morning, not my king. Not my king. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you, Lord. Thank you for this end times reality, Lord, that we can put to use right now. Lord, that will, if you help me divide this, will make sense right now. Lord, I ask this word this morning, be a lamp unto our feet, a light unto our path. It is in the name of your precious, beloved, August Son we pray. Amen and amen. Amen. Not my king, please be seated. Not my king. John the Revelator is blessed with the glorious vision of Jesus Christ being crowned King of the universe. You see, when the Holy Spirit quickened the corpse of Jesus in the borrowed tomb, Jesus had defeated the very last enemy, death, and he rose triumphant. And what John is privileged to see is Christ's return to heaven to claim his throne. That's what John got to see on Patmos. The Bible says that he was returning unto heaven for his coronation as King of kings and Lord of Lords. You know, we use that term, our banners back there say King of King and Lord of Lords. This is when he received those titles. The Bible says there were loud voices in heaven, jubilant praise, loud Hosanna, amen. Of cherubim and seraphim and angels and all the heavenly beings. I think in our study it calls them creatures in heaven. King Jesus has just returned from the greatest battle of all time. The glorified man has returned as Lord of all. Lord of all. Amen. Colossians 2 says, Jesus is the head of all principality, all powers. Ephesians says, the Father hath put all things under his feet. In other words, he has preeminence to be the head of the church. He is all in all. Amen. You know, we have to sometimes we have to stop paying attention to the little church documents and pictures that they hand out and their little markers, drawings of the meek and lowly Galilean. Amen. Or the downtrodden Nazarene, the lamb led to slaughter. And to be honest, he's not the rejected man standing meekly at the door of your heart knocking to see if you'll open. You've seen the picture. We used to have fans with that picture of that. No, no, no. Jesus is the King of glory. He's the King of glory. Jesus came out of the grave in full resurrection power. Glory. He ascended to the throne, took over all power and dominion in the earth, in the heavens, in the universe, and beyond. And at this moment, he reigns over all. Reigns over all. The last enemy that stood before him was death, and he treated death as his footstool. Bear with me just a moment. I'm going to delve into some real common sense theology. But I'll ask you to stay alert. Amen. See, when your life is in turmoil, when your situation seems to be spiraling out of control. Me standing up here saying that he is the wheel in the middle of the wheel might not speak to you. He's the fairest of ten thousand. Might not really help. Might not get to the crux of your problem. But Monday you still have the problem. The issue's still there. Rose of Sharon, Lily of the Valley, the bright and the morning star, they preach well, but when you're struggling, maybe not so much. It might not minister to you. Brothers and sisters, this message today will not only preach well, it will minister to you. If death was the last enemy of Christ, then all other enemies were defeated, right? Common sense. Death was the last, all other enemies were defeated. Jesus is not locked into an eternal struggle with Satan. That we're gonna take to the we're gonna take to the very end. No, the war's over. The war's over. Satan was defeated. Jesus cast them down in shameful disgrace. The heel of Jesus' boot, or his sandalberry, in your case. Amen. Bruised his head. And you and I, as born-again, bloodbought children of the king, we have victory. Victory. Glory. Glory. Show it to me, Pastor. You're preaching it. Show it to me. I will. Revelation 12. 7. I'm glad you asked. And there was war in heaven. We're in seven. And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragons fought and his angels and prevailed not. Neither was there place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world. He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now, now is come. Hmm. Now is come salvation and strength and the kingdom of our God and the power of his Christ. And for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accuseth them before our God day and night.

unknown:

Oh yes.

SPEAKER_00:

A far too large segment of Christianity. Think of Jesus as a buddy or a pal who will be with us in our defeat, in our sorrow, in our bondages. And that's true. That's true. Don't misunderstand. That's true. But it's not his desire for you. It's not where he wants us to be. So if he has, if he is your king, let's start there. If he is your king, and if he has a bruised and defeated devil running from his presence, like we just read, and all principalities and powers bow to his might and his majesty, just his breath positions stars and planets that are a thousand times bigger than the earth, even more. If that's all true, then the nations of this world are nothing before him. Amen. Iran on the verge of nuclear arms, powerless before him. North Korea, nothing. China with a million-man army, impotent before the Christ, before the august and mighty King Jesus. None, Daniel said, none can stay his hand. In other words, whatever he has to do, he will do. None can stop him. Jesus will not only reign when he comes back or in heaven in the future for eternity. He reigns now. He reigns now. All of his enemies are defeated, so that means all of your enemies are defeated. Glory. Glory. Sin can't push you around anymore. Lust can't dominate you. The devil can't make you do anything. Sister Geraldine, two of you might remember her, said, The devil made me do it, honey. The devil made me do it. Devil can't make you do anything. Glory. Yet there's a veil, George. There's a veil over so Many Christians' eyes as they assign Christ's kingship to another. To another. Flesh and blood, something we can touch. Call him whatever you want, a pope, a pastor, a priest, a poet. We assign his kingship to someone else. We give his kingship to doctors, don't we? To tell us about quality of life, about pulling the plug, about living wills, about no resuscitation orders. We invite companies, careers, money into a joint kingship with Jesus to plan our future. We want to be stable in our in our old age. I gotta have this much to be comfortable when I'm 65 or 70. So I'll do this or I'll do that. You know, obviously I don't talk too much about financial things, firstly, because I'm not qualified, secondly, because you'll find out I'm not real smart. Uh but I'll give you a truth that you can use toward financial security. Recognize and accept that your money isn't yours. That's the that's the one step. Recognizing that your money isn't yours. It belongs to God. It all belongs to him. You say, I don't understand that. That's how a kingdom works. It all belongs to the crown, everything. It all belongs to Jesus. And he tells us that we can administrate the money that he allows us to earn, make, get, whatever, and all he requires that we give a fraction back. Give him a fraction back of his money. Got it? His money. Back to him. But the rest we can use for our existence and obviously to further the kingdom of God. But it's all his. If you recognize that, your financial future will be bright. Amen. Well, Pastor, I can't afford to tithe. I can't afford not to. Hallelujah. We give his kingship to family or to a boyfriend, a girlfriend, a spouse, a child, a parent. You ever hear the phrase, well, he's the king of the castle around here, or she's the queen of the home. And look, I'm don't misunderstand again. If you say that in jest, and really there's nothing wrong with that. But when we when we really ascribe to that, that he's the king of the house, king of the castle, and we're not fooling around, it's literally a veil of unbelief. It's a veil of unbelief. Blinded to the kingship of Christ, to who he is. Say, well, I'm the priest of this house. Yeah, but you're coming under the head of the church. Amen. Yeah, you are the priest of your house, but you come under the leader of the church. That's Jesus Christ. But in Christ, the veil is removed. The veil that's over our eyes, that blinds us to the kingship of Christ is removed. And we need to see him in all of his kingly glory for who he really is. Not just who he represents or the stories that we read or watch. Under his rule and reign, you and I should be changing. Ever changing. And let me just ask that question. Don't put up your hand. Are you changing? In Christ? See, there's no there's no neutral in Christianity. No neutral. You're either going forward or backward. There's no little sloppy place on the gear shift where, okay, that's neutral. No end. Only only drive and reverse. You're either going forward or you're going backward. Second Corinthians. Just briefly, I was just gonna cite it to you, but it's better if you see it. Second Corinthians three. Three and eighteen. But we all with open face, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. If we're not changing closer into the image of Jesus Christ from glory to glory, then I suspect we have another king. If you're the same Christian you were the day you were saved, then I suspect you have another king. Because as the bride of Christ, we should be changing daily. Daily. Less materialistic, perhaps, uh less sensuous, less concerned with the matters of this world or social events or family affairs, and more consumed by the things of God. Having not seen Jesus face to face, or even as John was privileged to see him in a vision, uh unbelief hinders us from seeing the power and the glory that belong to him. And we'll listen to someone who tells us he's just a good buddy, he's a wingman, he's a friend. We don't worship, we don't acknowledge or serve him as the supreme potentate over everything. Wouldn't that change things? Doesn't that change things? We don't ascribe to him all the might and power that is his, and when we approach him, do we approach him as a ruling king? As a ruling king, who said in his kingdom manual that he gave us, when he hears our petition, when he hears his children cry out to him, we have what we ask. We have what we ask. How many of us really believe that? We throw out a prayer, I think it was brought up today during prayer, that we throw out a prayer and we really aren't sure that he's gonna come through. How many really believe when Jesus said, wherever two or more gathered together, I'm in the midst? How many of you really believe that? How many of you believe that King Jesus is in this assembly this morning? Amen. How many believe that in response to believing prayer, your King engages all the powers of heaven available to him to meet our need? Glory. Do you really believe that he delights in our praise? When we're in worship and praise, do you really believe he sings with us? That he what's the what's the twirl? That he twirls, that he dances with us. How many of you really believe that? Glory. If we do it, did wouldn't we approach him as the only true king? Wouldn't we recognize him as the fullness of the Godhead that was ready to be used, the power ready to be used on our behalf? Whatever we faced, would we would. We would praise him. We would expect him to open our eyes, to reveal himself. Amen. We would pray, knowing he already heard us, knowing that the answer was on the way, we would expect his provision in our needs, and that he would provide, and truth be told, if you walk out of this sanctuary this morning, not knowing he has heard your plea and has already sent the answer, I wonder if you believe that he's king at all. If Christ abide in you, abides in you, he doesn't abide as a sympathetic ear or a feel-good moment on a Sunday morning before you get on with life, uh, or as a winged man or just a buddy, he abides in you as king of all. Wow. Wow, you have a king living within you. If you're getting this today, if you grasp the concept of kingdom authority, your days of religious confusion are over because the power of darkness can't harass you. Can't. Amen. The devil can't walk on you anymore. No longer can he wound you? Can he hurt your mind? Can he trouble your home? Can he harass your children? Because today you can arise in full assurance and faith in your crowned king. Glory. Glory. King Jesus will be your Sabbath rest. Amen. Satan, there's a song Jason Crab sings that I think, I think our worship team may have done it once. But it says, Satan had already picked out your grave. Plans had moved forward to put you away. Would anyone even care that I'd be lost? Hallelujah. I knew my destruction was just a matter of time. But Jesus appeared. He said, This one is mine. Stay from all harm. Hallelujah. Safe from all harm, since I met the one who came looking for me. Glory. If you leave and this message just falls apart, especially tonight or tomorrow, if it just falls apart into oblivion, I suspect you may have another king in your life. If he is the king, wait, let me back up. Do you believe Jesus has a kingdom? We read about in our opening scripture, right? Do you believe that God's kingdom supersedes all others? Amen. And he has all authority in all realms, all power, all principality and places, that he has defeated Satan and all the forces of darkness defeated at the cross. He's conquered the last enemy, death, at his resurrection. If you believe that the whole universe is his and he is the king. Glory, glory, glory. And the king has taken up residence in you, and while he has always been king, today he can be your king. Glory. Reigning from within you. Think about that. That boggles my mind. A king who reigns from within you. Glory. If that's so, what do we have to fear? What are we worried about? What's our concern? What could possibly hurt you? And are not all things possible because all things are under his control and his dominion? King of all. So if this is more than a feel-good message, just something to, I don't know, maybe make you feel a little happy on a Sunday morning. Why are so many Christians living in doubt and despair and defeat? Fighting a losing battle against temptation and bondages. No peace, no rest, no direction. The answer is straightforward because they serve another king. Mamai, with no power, no army, no authority, and this is what I've been sent to deliver today. That life's a lie. It's a lie. Because you stand in the court of a king with angels proclaiming his power. Glory. Day in and day out, encouraging you. Taste and see. Come and see. Come and uh uh understand the power of God, knowing that he is in our midst, saying that our God reigns, our God reigns, knowing his angels are encamped about this church and about you around your house. Can't you see his armies? Can't you see his armies dressed in white, on horseback, ready for battle? Remove the veil, remove the veil of unbelief. You'll see him. You'll see him. Believe what he said, you'll see him, believe his word. You'll see it. Revelation 19, and I'll close. 19 6. And I heard, as it were, the voice of the great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thundering, saying, Alleluia, for the Lord God omnipotent reign. Let us be glad and rejoice, give honor to him, for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife had made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white. For the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints. And he said unto me, Write this down. Write, blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. What a sight. What a sight. My I can't help but get goosebumps when I even think of this. What a sight that will be, the redeemed of all the ages, gathered together, seated at the Lord's table, waiting for his entrance, waiting for him to come in. Abraham, Moses, Joshua, all waited, waiting. David, all waiting at the king's table, all the apostles, and the blood bought of every age. All of us waiting at the king's table. And it starts to get louder and louder with anticipation, longing to see him. Then the long, piercing blast of many trumpets. This is the marriage supper of the Lamb. Amen. Don't know whether it's going to be an indoor, outdoor affair. I don't care. Amen. I know if it's an outdoor affair, I know it'll be sunny and bright. Hallelujah. And with a voice like thunder, the Father, God the Father, Almighty God, will cry aloud, Behold your King of Glory. And that place, that place will shake with applause. It will shake with the thundering of ovation. The wheel in the middle of the wheel, the bright in the morning star, the fairest of ten thousand. Hallelujah. Armies in white, all snap to attention. Glory as the king rides in. He is arrayed in a sparkling. And if you look at some of the words, he's arrayed in a dazzling, illuminated garment of white, his vest crimson red, also sparkling, dazzling. Shouts of thanksgiving, shouts of praise to our king. And in rides the king. On a great white stallion. A glorious smile of victory on his face. All enemies gone. The king finally reunited with his bride. If he is your king this morning, if he reigns in your life, the command is simple, straightforward, and singular. Lift your voice, praise him loudly. That's the only command we have. Lift your voice and praise him loudly. Even now, no enemy, no enemy dares come near you. No power or darkness has dominion. Principalities today, right now, are in disarray and confusion, knowing what's coming, knowing what's going to happen. Satan trembles, knowing his time is limited. Your king is here. Amen. Hallelujah. Thank you for listening. Your king is here.
